It's a slippery slope for America. If first we're silent when the corporations exclude Kucinich, we will be silent at the next offen se too. They think they can get away with so much. We MUST remember the past.
- They came first for the Communists,
- and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
- Then they came for the Jews,
- and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
- Then they came for the trade unionists,
- and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
- Then they came for the Catholics,
- and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
- Then they came for me,
- and by that time no one was left to speak up.
We're starting this poem over in American politics, and the first stanza is "They came first for Kucinich...". Regardless of our political affiliation we CANNOT stand on the sidelines watching our democracy be co-opted. The time to speak up is now! |
